Benefits CheckUP - What You Can Get?

Home
 Benefits Checkup

Recap:  BenefitsCheckUp is completely confidential [see Privacy Policy]. Best of all.....t's free! On average there are 50 to 70 programs available to individuals per state. Provides federal, state and some local private and public benefits for people ages 55 and over that may pay for some of their costs of prescription drugs, health care, utilities, and other essential items or services.

There is a new resource from NCOA you might want to check out, Benefits Rx.
The National Council On Aging created BenefitsCheckUp to help older adults to quickly identify programs that may improve the quality of their lives.

Family and friends can also obtain facts about benefits that their loved ones may qualify for. Chances are, you will be surprised to learn what benefits are available to you, regardless of your income.

Here's how it works
It will take you about 10 or 15 minutes to enter information about your financial situation into an online questionnaire. Then, Benefits CheckUp explains what benefit programs you may be eligible for and how to apply for them.

When to estimate, when to wait
It's important to be as precise as possible with the information entered, especially the income and asset questions. However, it's better to estimate than not enter anything at all.

Remember that the service is free and you can enter information as many times as you would like, so if you don't have the information now, take the time to get it all (using the BenefitsCheckUp List) and then complete the service with the most accurate information possible.

Check It Again in Six Months
BenefitsCheckUp is updated and improved regularly. New programs are added, eligibility rules and criteria are updated regularly, and your life situation will probably change. Therefore, we recommend that you come back and complete another BenefitsCheckUp screening. Doing so may identify programs for you that could significantly impact the quality of your life or the life of a loved one.

If your medical condition or the medications you are currently taking change, we recommend that you complete another BenefitsCheckUp screening. Programs that provide prescription discounts are related to specific medications. If your medications change, you may find that you are eligible for additional benefits programs.

Feedback
BenefitsCheckup would sincerely appreciate it if you would contact them if you receive benefits from a program that you discovered through their service.

Please share your success by completing this on-line feedback form.

Next
In addition to identifying the programs that a person may be eligible to receive, BenefitsCheckUp also provides a detailed description of the programs, local contacts for additional information (typically the addresses and phone numbers of where to apply for the programs), and materials to help successfully apply for each program.

Once you've printed out the report, we recommend that you immediately collect the required material and apply for the listed programs. Timing can vary on how quickly program eligibility can be determined, so depending upon your situation and the program, allow for approximately two to three weeks before following up with each agency.

Printing Out Your Report
On the Results Overview page and toward the bottom of that page, there is a link to "View and Print Report." This will create a report that displays both the Results Overview as a table of contents, and the individual Program Details (with all of the relevant information).

The reports can be large documents because each Program Detail is printed on its own page.

Remember....BenefitsCheckUp identifies programs that you should investigate further. It does not determine whether or not you shall receive benefits nor does it enroll you in any benefit programs. It is your responsibility to apply for all programs.

~~Testimonial ~~

A lady from one of the Huntington's Disease Internet Support Groups wrote about how, after filling in the info on the Benefit CheckUP site, she found:

One recourse for my area in MN was a new (1 yr old) program called Living at Home/Block Nurse.  I called
them and got my first visit 3 weeks ago. They do chores, minor house repairs, rides, meds and about 15 other things.  They will do whatever you want. Now I have  someone come vacuum and mop (will add dusting..my house is just awful) once a week.  They also do our  mowing, snow removal, fixed 2 leaky faucets, fixed a crack in the cement on the front steps ....whatever I put on my list that is minor. My husband has had 2 strokes and not able to help me much at all.)
